QCC Library Guidelines
for Placing Materials on Reserve
Library’s Reserve Collection is intended to give students easy access to
supplemental course materials. Faculty may place course material on
reserve for one academic term. At the end of that period, personal copies
of materials will be returned to the faculty member via campus mail. QCC
Library books and videotapes will be returned to the general collection.
Materials that are not copies may be designated for “permanent” status if
they are used every semester. Please address questions to Denise Cross at

periodical article or small selections from a book may be placed on
reserve in accordance with the “fair use” guidelines of the Copyright Act,

semester. Publisher permission must be obtained for subsequent
use or the original work must be purchased.
The material must have a copyright notice on the first page.
Students are allowed to make a copy of reserve material for their own
personal educational use.
Faculty should submit one form with each item to the Circulation
Desk in the Library or one form per item via QCC Intranet forms.
Processing of reserve materials may take up to three days to process so
it is recommended that the instructor not announce in class the
availability of the material until it has been processed into the reserve
